Ok, here comes the first weekend's predictions. There's 15 games and I hope that I predict all the outcomes correctly.
Atlanta vs. Kansas City. The Falcons head to Arrowhead Stadium for their season opener. This is one of the toughest places to play, but right now I believe that the crowd may be tougher than the Chiefs. The Falcons are legitimate Super Bowl contenders. The crowd will force some penalites on the Falcons, but in the end the Matt Ryan express will pull this one out. Falcons 31 Chiefs 10.
Philadelphia vs. Cleveland. The Brandon Weeden era begins at home. It will be an interesting reaction by the Browns fans at the begining when they will be forced to have a moment of silence for former owner Art Modell. A lot of fans still hate him for pulling the Browns out of Cleveland to Baltimore. Unfortunately, for the Browns fans there will be lots of moments of silence during the game. The Eagles have a lot to prove and frankly are a better team then the Browns. Philly's defense will put constant pressure on the rookie QB and he doesn't have the weapons to hurt the defense. Eagles pull away easily 24-0
Washington vs New Orleans. The Saints will be even more fired up to play after Friday's news of the player's suspensions being lifted. Overhyped rookie RG3, will have a rough opener. The Saints will put pressure on him and force him into mistakes. I say he is overhyped, because he has been labled as a savior and has been in a ton of commercials already before even playing a down; it's shameful to great players who have already succeded and be overlooked by the endorsement world. Hell, even the #1 pick of the draft and arguably the better quarterback Andrew Luck has been overlooked, but he appears like he wants to play for greatness, not for fame and fortune. I liken it to Peyton and Brady, Peyton has all the endorsements, but at the end of the day Brady has the three rings. Anyway, the Saints will go marching all over the redskins and have this game wrapped up in the 3rd quarter. Saints 38 Redskins 13.
St. Louis vs Detroit. The Lions are looking to keep the train running after their playoff season (their first since 1999). The Rams are looking at rebuilding. Jeff Fisher will rebuild this team, but it wont start on Sunday. The Lions have too much offensive firepower and this will almost be their fifth preseason game and a preperation for their big test next week at San Francisco on Sunday night. I'll say it, the Lions will try to put this one away early and should have Stafford and the boys out of there by halftime. Lions in the blowout of the week, 41-7.
New England vs. Tennessee. New England is still hurting after another Super Bowl loss. That doesn't fare well for the Titans. Brady and company will go for the kill early and will pass on the Titans earlt, then work on the ground game. Patriots will try and contain Chris Johnson, but will focus on making 1st year starter Jake Locker make some mistakes. Patriots will win 31-17.
Miami vs. Houston. The biggest question about this game is will Arian Foster play. Other than that, it's pretty much a laugher on paper. The Texans felt that they were a Super Bowl team last year and quite possibly could have been if Matt Schaub was healthy. This team still won a playoff game with a 3rd string rookie quarterback and gave the Ravens all they could handle. So, the Miami Dolphins coming in with a rookie quarterback against a top ranked defense will struggle mightily. Texans win convincingly 34-0.
Buffalo vs. New York Tebows, oops I mean Jets. The Jets are the most televised team in preseason NFL history. I mean it appeared that ESPN was at their camp every day. That's a lot of coverage for a team that didn't get a touchdown until the final preseason game, by a quarterback not named Mark or Tim. The Jets have a lot of issues to work through and Rex Ryan will be on the hot seat early. Buffalo went out and spent some money on defense getting Mario Williams. The story of this game will be Fred Jackson. Jackson was on pace for an MVP caliber season til he had a broken leg. Jackson will make the Jets look silly trying to tackle him and will lead the Bills to a tough early season victory. Bills 21 Jets 17.
Jacksonville vs. Minnesota. This is a battle of two teams mathematically eliminated from the playoffs this season. It's true they are. This game will be about running the ball. How well will MJD be able to run after missing the entire preseason? Will Adrian Peterson be effective so soon from ACL surgery? Other than that, this will be a boring game to watch. Jacksonville has a little more defense and that will carry them to a 7-3 victory.
Indianapolis vs. Chicago. Andrew Luck's first pro start comes against one of the league's best defenses. Luck has all the makings of being a great quarterback, but this will be a tough test for the rookie and he will have some growing pains. The Bears are energized by having Brandon Marshall reunite with Jay Cutler. However, in this one, the Bears will probably rely on Matt Forte to carry them to victory. The Colts have a new 3-4 defensive scheme and this puts Dwight Freeney in the spot of a pure rush linebacker and a big mismatch for the Bears offensive line, so they will run to keep him honest and protect their quarterback. In the end, the Bears have too much for the Colts and their young quarterback. Bears 24 Colts 10.
Carolina vs. Tampa Bay. Carolina is a hot pick for people to have a break out season, because of the success of Cam Newton last year. as Lee Corso would say, not so fast. Newton will be examined by defensive coordinators and they will find holes in his game. Teams will drop back into more zones and force Cam to make the right reads. Tampa Bay has reloaded. Getting Vincent Jackson is big for them. It gives Josh Freeman a legitimate #1 receiver to look to and Freeman's game will improve because of this. Rookie Doug Martin will run over the Panthers defense. The Bucs will start the season off with a bang by getting a big victory 24-13.
Seattle vs. Arizona. Seattle has a lot of hype surrounding them, but there is little substance to it. They will most likely go this game without running back Marshawn Lynch and starting a rookie quarterback who has a lot of promise in Russell Wilson. The Cardinals have quietly built one of the league's better defenses and now that they made the right choice in going with quarterback John Skelton, the Cardinals are a team that could surprise this year. The Cardinals just win games with Skelton. he makes plays and knows to get the ball to Larry Fitzgerald, always a good idea. The Seahawks may be a sleeper team for some, but not for me and they will lose an early division game 27-14.
San Francisco vs. Green Bay. The main event for the day. This game has playoff implications on it and it's week one. The battle of great offense vs. great defense comes to the forefront here. In this one, I got to go with the offense. Aaron Rodgers has to many weapons and will make the right reads and find the right play to make. The 49ers can only hope to slow them down, they will not be able to stop them all day. They will try and run on offense in attempt to keep Rodgers off the field, but that will only work for so long. The Packers have too much offense even for arguably the best defense in the league. The Packers will get a late strike from Rodgers to Nelson and pull it out 17-13.
Steelers vs. Broncos. Peyton Manning returns will be the story. The Steelers return to the place where their season ended embarrissingly last year in the playoffs. It may be a different quarterback, but the Steelers will be hot still from that defeat. They will put Manning to a true gut check. They will come after him and try and hit him as much as possible. Manning missing a whole season may become gun shy if the Steelers can get to him. Big Ben is going to become Big Daddy this weekend and may play inspired because of this. People believe that the Broncos will make a Super Bowl push, but they will suffer an early setback. The Steelers will take care of Peyton and pull this one out 24-16.
Cincinati vs. Baltimore. The first of two Monday night games is a look at the past vs. the future. The Bengals are turning into the new dominant team of the AFC North and the Ravens window is starting to close. Andy Dalton showed last year that he is a fiery leader and benefited from fellow rookie A.J. Green. Green is a nightmare to defend and will soon be an elite receiver. The Ravens want to run the offense through Ray Rice, although they have given more freedom to Joe Flacco. Flacco is able to run a no-huddle offense at all times for the Ravens now. This is going to be a physical game with both defenses keeping the other offense at bay. When it comes down to the end of the game, the Ravens will make one more play at the end and win a defensive struggle 13-10.
San Diego vs. Oakland. The last game of week one will see the Chargers try and get back on their old winning ways. The Raiders will hope that they can make plays. The Chargers have to contain Darren McFadden and they will do an adequate job of it. Phillip Rivers will look to his weapons and should have success against the Raiders secondary. Antonio Gates will cause problems for the Raiders and the Chargers will move the ball down the field all game. The Chargers defeat the Raiders 27-17.
Well, here's week one's predictions. I feel like that I'll go 15-0, well really 15-1 cause I would have picked the Giants over the Cowboys. Enjoy the read everyone. Feel free to laugh at the picks if you want, but I will get more right than you think haha.
